What the WHOIS lookup shows
Enter a domain such as example.ie, example.co.uk or example.com. The lookup asks the public registry data for:
- Registrar, the company the domain is registered through.
- Expiry date, with the number of days remaining.
- Registered and last updated dates.
- Status codes, such as
clientTransferProhibited, which describe locks and the domain's state. - Nameservers, the DNS servers the registry has on record for the domain.
RDAP first, WHOIS as a fallback
RDAP is the structured successor to WHOIS. The lookup tries RDAP first and falls back to port-43 WHOIS for registries that don't publish RDAP. The result shows which source answered. Lookups can take up to 30 seconds, and some registries limit or delay what they publish, so now and then no result comes back. Your registrar account always has the correct details.
Why the owner's details are missing
Most registries redact personal contact details for privacy, so this tool doesn't show the registrant's name, email or address.
Never miss a renewal
Knowing the expiry date is the first step. UpMonix can track the date for you and email you well before the domain lapses, alongside website uptime, SSL, DNS, MX and nameserver checks. Domain expiry monitoring is included on every plan, including Free, which covers one domain. See the domain expiry checker and the DNS checker too.
