Multi-Channel Alerting: Email, Telegram, Slack, SMS and More

The best alert channel is the one your team actually sees. Route critical incidents to the right people on the right medium.

An alert nobody sees is worse than no alert — it creates false confidence. Multi-channel alerting means routing incidents to email, chat apps, SMS and voice based on severity and who is on call.

Match channel to urgency

  • Email — Fine for low-priority warnings and daily digests
  • Telegram / Slack — Fast for dev and ops teams already living in chat
  • SMS / WhatsApp — When you need to break through notification silence
  • Phone — Last resort for revenue-critical outages (via escalation)

Avoid alert spam

Send every channel for every blip and people mute everything. Use:

  • Consecutive failure thresholds before alerting
  • Severity tiers (SSL expiring in 30 days vs site down now)
  • Quiet hours with escalation override for critical incidents

Test your channels

A misconfigured Slack webhook fails silently until the real outage. Run test notifications after setup and after any credential rotation.

Channels, destinations, templates and routing policies live in one place — not scattered across monitor settings. Connect Telegram bots, email, SMS providers and more, then define who gets what.

Start with two channels minimum: one persistent (email) and one immediate (Telegram or Slack). Add SMS when downtime directly costs money.
